Lifestyle newborn photography offers a unique way to document your new arrival in the comfort of your home. Here are a few helpful tips to help you prepare for this special photoshoot.
1. Newborn photoshoots typically take place within 2-4 weeks of life
The best time for a newborn photoshoot is typically within the first 2-4 weeks after birth, when your baby is still sleepy. Contact your photographer before your baby arrives to ensure a spot within this time frame.
2. A tidy space reduces stress
Lifestyle newborn photoshoots generally take place in your home. Natural light is best, so open curtains and blinds to let in as much natural light as possible. Tidy up any rooms you would like to use for your photos. This could be your living room, nursery, or bedroom.

3. Help your baby feel relaxed before the photoshoot
Feeding your baby right before the session helps keep them calm and settled. Keep diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes nearby in case of any surprises. But always remember that even if things don’t go perfectly, the unexpected moments make for beautiful candid images!
4. Choose outfits with neutral colors
Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully and create a serene atmosphere. Think whites, creams, pastels, or gentle earth tones. That said, prioritize comfort for yourself and your baby. It will allow you to feel at ease and support a relaxed experience.

5. If you have older siblings or pets, include them in the session!
Discuss your plans for a photoshoot with siblings ahead of time so that they feel prepared to interact with the baby on photoshoot day.
6. Above all - be yourself!
Lifestyle photography is all about capturing authentic moments, so do your best to relax and enjoy the experience. Your photographer will guide you through poses and interactions, but so many great shots often come from spontaneous moments.
